This Isabel Marant Etoile print is clearly the celeb must have for the season. Fashion's current darling is having a positive Hollywood moment.

We are already sold out of the version Michelle Monaghan and Miranda Kerr have been seen wearing (can we discuss how chic Ms. Kerr is even in her maternity wear?), and we are quickly selling out of the top and new version of the dress. Looc currently has the Etoile crepe dress, with cinched waist for $476, and crepe blouse in black and purple for $310.

Our new Etoile shipment has just been unpacked, steamed, and styled, and it definitely will not last long.

Try out Fresh, the new sandwich shop in town - have been loving the Nantucket Babe with ham and brie. mmmm....

Make a picnic and head out to Great Point for the sunset. You can pick up everything in Sconset on your way out - curried chicken salad, pasta salad, fresh french bread at 4pm (get there then or it will sell out) - all at the Sconset Market, a bottle of wine and plastic cups from the wine shop (don't forget a cork screw!)

Looc's cameo in Knight and Day!

So, back in October, Looc took a week long break and was transformed by the powers at Fox into a little bridal boutique to be featured in the movie, Knight and Day, with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. From what we could see, Cameron was dressed in her yellow bridesmaid get-up along with her movie sister wearing a wedding gown hanging out in the back of the store when a pedestrian came in to tell her she was getting a parking ticket. After leaving the store to check on it in a rush, was stopped by some guys appearing to be feds headed by Peter Saarsguard asking her to get in their SUV. It was definitely the most acttion we've ever seen around here and it's out for our viewing today!! So go check it out in a theater near you!!

While many of the lines I carry here at Looc strike a special cord with me on not only a professional level but on a personal one as well, I have to tell you that
Rag & Bone. is. in. a. class. of. their. own.

I've admired this brand pretty much since their launch, but it wasn't until my trip to their NYC showroom for the fall '10 buy this last week when this admiration grew to the uttermost respect - so much so that any worry I had about larger retail stores carrying them too went right out Looc's big French doors.

The greeting. The professionalism. The showroom itself. The presentation. The collection. My mouth dropped and while I get excited to see the new collection from all of my lines, this really set the bar for me. It mattered.

Buying trips are funny. Or should I say, the politics of buying trips are funny. I guess the politics of any business are funny, but the fashion industry is what we're talking about here. I won't get into right now, but sufficed to say the treatment received by different showrooms and designers always seem to be graded on a curve and I'll just say it doesn't seem like everyone is shooting for that A.

All that being said, Rag & Bone Spring 2010 is here! Striped knits, double breasted over-sized blazers, the most perfect black riding pant legging ever - some very cool stuff, people. So come check it out!!

Apiece Apart

One of the new lines arriving here at Looc in the next week or so is Apiece Apart. I am so excited to debut this designer in Boston - well, these two designers, I should say. It's not easy to design a full line of clothing that is about simplicity without it being dull, but rest assured if staple pieces in your closet are your 2010 objective, Laura Cramer and Starr Hout have the answer.

It was three strikes, you're out for the attempted home delivery and back to the Bal Harbour store they went so had them re-directed to Looc and voila! I can finally put away the piles of folded clothes that have been sitting around the bedroom for the last 2 weeks. i'm simply mad about the scent...i could smell the delicious things the second I opened the fedex box. here is the description so if you're looking for drawer liners, these are your guys. so happy, it was totally worth the wait.

Can't get enough - The Edge of Love

I went and saw The Edge of Love with Sienna Miller and Keira Knightley with a friend this past weekend. While somewhat slow at times, it does retrospectively makes sense given the poetic nature of the film (so stay with it). I really enjoyed the story fused with Dylan Thomas' love letters - telling of a life torn between his wife and childhood love - the two free-spirited women the movie really revolves around.

Their energy perfectly reflects the costumes worn throughout which are completely inspirational for Spring (actually for Fall, too). I love the follow up of these looks to the Liberty print pieces and Lyell post. How much do these flowery dresses and little wool sweaters worn with wellies remind you of the feeling of Spring Steven Alan and Lyell?? Not only does this movie make me want to move to a small cottage on the coast of Wales (Scotland or Ireland would do), but sort of makes me want to rock my Hunters a little more often. There is a silver lining to this gloomy New England weather. ;)

Since 1980, Nili Lotan has worked in New York in Senior Design Director positions at leading fashion companies including Nautica and Ralph Lauren. She has been the creative inspiration and conceptual leader for a diverse range of women's fashion. Prior to her arrival in the United States, she served for two years in the Israeli Air Force and graduated from Shenkar Fashion Institute in Tel Aviv, Israel. Christina Lehr's Spring is here at Looc and I'm not kidding when I say, I had to change my outfit when I opened up the box! I will hopefully get a chance to post some pics in the next day or two, but for now - think quilted sweatshirt cardigans with wooden buttons to throw on over jeans and a tee in these transitional weather months, vintage white cotton lace vests to layer with simple shirt dresses and perfect cloth-covered-buttoned henleys in charcoals, blacks and whites... I'm so happy.

Matthew Williamson's brand new store opened last week in the Meatpacking District. It neighbors Stella McCartney (my dream wardrobe) and Jeffrey's (where I spotted Jason Wu) and faces DVF. Anyway, this store is BEYOND beautiful. My jaw literally dropped while walking through it with every new corner, every new piece of clothing being more ridiculously cool than the last. And that is pretty much what he is - ridiculously cool. The back of the store opens up to this glassed-in jungle oasis of greenery where mannequins are almost hiding and lucky enough to be wearing his pieces of art...so lucky! Also, be sure not to miss the ladies' room (my favorite part of the store) where an emerald-green glass chandelier and gorgeous Venetian glass mirror is surrounded by wallpapered iconic fashion images. Here are a couple pics I shot quickly before I was told not to take them. Oops....I really couldn't help myself. They DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, come close to showing its untouched extraordinariness.

This Lower East Side vintage store is such a gem. The tiny space houses a TON of designer and non-designer vintage clothing, bags, jewelry, hats, etc. and I think I would have been happy taking home any one of them. I fell in love with a great Zach Carr black belted-jacket and wound up buying it. There are some rarer pieces that, of course, get a little pricey, but for the most part, a very affordable, and well-edited store. Some pics...

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend so had expected something great, but after actually experiencing it, I wanted to immediately transplant it right up to a South End side street. For now, I will settle for being an irregular there. I went with my husband which lended itself to be a great date place, but it could work for a girls' night out, boys' night out, just drinks, you name it. While our waitress wasn't the friendliest, her attitude was blurred by the perfect wine, meal and atmosphere. The decor is phenom with no detail being overlooked.

While critics are harsh and looking at anything that could possibly be considered negative about Gwyneth Paltrow's lifestyle website and e-newsletter, the site, goop.com, is a minimalist, easy-to-navigate, and in my opinion, nice, refreshing, and edited on-line resource. From her go-to-recipes and favorite restaurants to tips on fashion and style, she utilizes her discerning, well-traveled self to 'nourish the inner aspect.' I mean, who wouldn't want to be more like Gwyn?? C'mon.

Wingspread for sale!

Speaking of my wedding, it has recently been brought to my attention that the home we rented on Nantucket for my wedding reception and where my bridesmaids and I stayed for the week, is for sale. I have mixed feelings about this, but have to share this news - this home is just too beautiful to not belong to someone.... special.

I always knew I wanted to get married on Nantucket. And when my family built a home there in 2002, it became for me a reality. There was one problem - our house had only a small back yard, mostly consisting of a brick patio, rosa rugosa, hydrangea and privet hedges - my mom likes to call it her secret garden - and this was no place to hold a 175 person wedding. With the help of my wedding planner, Nicole Wheldon, we searched and searched for the perfect venue. It came down to two different properties - Westcliff, in Dionis, and Wingspread, in Shawkemo. Location-wise, they were both ideal - on the water, with Westcliff overlooking the sound, and Wingspread, having views of town, the harbor, and Great Point, to the east. Westcliff had more of the old Nantucket feel I had always wanted - the nostalgia of what I knew Nantucket was before I had even been there. Here are some pics of Westcliff...

My mom always told us, me, the stories of going there when she was young - when all the men wore reds with Irish hand-knit sweaters and navy blue blazers for the cool, sea-breezy evenings and women in their Lilly Pulitzer and Jack Rogers - an image I will always keep in my mind, no matter how overplayed, or cliche it may be. After all, this was the place that my mom had attributed to her diet coke drinking and cigarette smoking, but I digress...

My decision, made of course with dear ol' Dad, was to go with Wingspread. And even though this home was newly built, a little over the top (it has a movie room in the basement), it was filled with nostalgia, with all sorts of love and care, seen only in the details. There were the plates of beach names up the back steps, Robert Gambee's old black and white photographs of Nantucket hung on the walls, a den filled with books about the island's history, and the best part - a feeling of family. This came to me as a surprise since there had only been a few renters before us, but there was truly some special thought put into this home during its construction.

And, now it is for sale for $8.5 million. Not bad. ;) Here are some pics...(sorry if they are scattered - still getting used to this whole thing!)

My wonderfully talented hair stylist, friend and neighbor, Kent Newton, has recently opened his own salon, Kent Newton Salon (gotta work your name ;)) ... and it's right here in the South End! How perfect for me - a two block walk to work, and now only one block further for a haircut and highlight!?? Kent came from Mario Russo Salon which is where I found and became obsessed with him. I loved him so much, I asked him to come to Nantucket to do my hair for my wedding! As a fellow South End business owner, I want to, one, say welcome to the neighborhood, and two, congratulate him on such an exciting endeavor!

Inspiration: The Duchess

I finally had the chance to watch The Duchess the other day and am now completely inspired by the costumes. The gold brocades, the larger-than-life feathers, the hats, THE FOX (are you kidding me?!?!), the muff (LOVE)!!! I want to BE Keira Knightley in this film just to have these pieces of art on my body. These pictures really do not do justice to what they looked like on screen - the entirety, the movement, the details....you have to watch this film just to see how amazingly beautiful they really are!!!

January 2009 marks an exciting time for Looc - a full year and a half in business, a growing base of fresh new designers, and a TON of great press. And with the help of Jessica Sutton, my wonderful, not to mention, gorgeous web designer, and the extreme talents of photographer, Sadie Dayton, we have launched Looc's website, www.loocboutique.com, and I have to say... I am absolutely loving it!

I've had so many calls from people all over the country asking for a website so I am pleased to have this blog along with the site to keep you up to date on new items at the store, events going on like trunk shows and fun cocktail hours, and other happenings at 12 Union Park Street like photos of killer outfits worn by some of my many beautiful customers and really anything else that inspires both me and my store...
